R&D/QC Technician

Cambridge, ON, Ontario

The Opportunity:

The R&D/QC Technician role will be responsible for assisting the R&D Chemist in preparing soap samples and product development, costing, and overseeing the scale-up process. Further, the R&D/QC Technician will be responsible for all stability testing required for new development or where required. This individual will be expected to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Development of personal care and cosmetic products for the hospitality and retail industries
  • Prepare samples required for customer evaluation, marketing purposes, and stability testing.
  • Works with production to scale-up laboratory processes for manufacturing.
  • Acts as the direct contact for Trial Batch runs in manufacturing.
  • Performs Stability testing for products to ensure long term performance as per industry standards.
  • Works closely with R&D Chemist to develop products that address customers’ specific market needs and expectations.
  • Ability to work effectively with QC and Production ensuring quality and maintain competitive high-quality products.
  • Responsible for operational QC checks during the afternoon shift and releasing materials for production as needed.
  • Perform inventory cycle counts for all chemicals.
  • Interpret and document all test results, calculations and observations and complete comprehensive reports as required; may review other Analyst’s lab notebook for accuracy of calculation and completion
  • Coordinate Out of Specs analytical test results to their superior; conduct investigation and complete OOS Analytical Test report
  • Maintain a detailed record of all test results and collect data for future specs establishment; initiate specs development and/or modification according to historical data
  • Maintains safe and healthy work environment for all staff by following and enforcing standards and procedures.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • BSc in Chemistry, College Diploma or equivalent science degree

  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years of development experience including product development, formulation, and quality testing or related roles preferably in a cosmetic manufacturing environment
  • Excellent technical knowledge of chemical products and raw materials relating to their use and functions.
  • Ability to work independently and organize multiple, complex projects involving various departments and stakeholders internally.
  • Experience with regulations and requirements such as cGMP, SOPs, OHS, ISO and NHP would be an asset
  • Continuous improvement mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication, organization, and computer skills
  • Must be a team player, technically competent and flexible with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
